Popular film and television actor Navin Nischol has died. The actor, who was 65-years-old, reportedly died of a heart attack at his residence in suburban Mumbai today, March 19, 2011.
Nischol made his Bollywood debut with 'Saawan Bhadon' in the early 70’s with one of the finest actresses of Indian film industry, Rekha.
After working for several years as lead actor in Bollywood, Nischol moved on to television where he also managed to carve successful career, with appearing in immensely popular television serial 'Dekh Bhai Dekh', co-starring Sushma Seth, Shekhar Suman and Farida Jalal.
About the veteran actor
Nischol was the first gold medallist from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and starred in numerous superhits like ‘Buddha Mil Gaya’ (1971), ‘Victoria No. 203’ (1972) and ‘Dhund’ (1973) in the 1970s.
He later appeared as character actor in 'Major Saab', 'The Burning Train' among others, and afterwards enjoyed a brief, yet successful stint on small screen with ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh'.
Nischol was last seen on silver screen in ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ (2006) and ‘Break Ke Baad’ (2010).
In 2006, the veteran actor was involved in a controversy when his wife committed suicide. She reportedly hanged herself at her residence on 24th April 2006, and the actor and his brother Pravin were held responsible for her suicide.
He had been charged with abetting his wife’s suicide, but the Mumbai sessions court acquitted him of the same two years later, in 2008.
