Preity's IPL team loses again

Preity Zinta's IPL team, Kings XI Punjab, lost a thriller to the Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai today (March 30). The Mumbai Indians won by four wickets; Kings XI had scored 163, while the Mumbai team ended with 164/6. It was a close match until the end, with the Mumbai Indians needing six runs from six balls in the final over.

Preity had predicted that the match would be thrilling. She’d tweeted, “We have always had the most exciting games with M.I in the past ! Hope today is also a thriller with lots of 6's,4's, and free hits !” Sportingly, she’d also admitted that the Mumbai Indians’ Sachin Tendulkar was her favourite player. Preity had posted on her Twitter account before the game, “Hey guys !All excited for the game tonight & 2 c Sachin, my fav player in this whole world play !”

But it wasn’t an exciting result for the actress. She looked very tense towards the end of the match. This defeat means that from the eight games her team has played, they’ve lost seven, and managed just one win. Preity is well aware of the equation. She tweeted post match, “Guys I need LUCK !!! Lots of it ! Only good thing about tonight was that v played well & Sachin got d Orange cap !”

Ranbir Kapoor all set to direct

Actor Ranbir Kapoor is snapping up film offers and endorsements by the dozens at the moment. But the actor is planning to take some time off at the end of this year to go behind the camera and direct a film.

“When he decided he wanted to join Bollywood, his plans were to revive the RK banner and direct films. And that’s why he decided to assist Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, when acting offers came his way, he took them on. However, all those in his inner circle always knew that it was a matter of time before Ranbir would direct. That’s something he is extremely passionate about,” says a friend of the actor.

Sources close to the star tell us that while Ranbir has been busy wrapping up his movies, he has also been hearing various scripts.

“He is very keen to take the RK banner back to where it was during his grandfather’s days. He is looking at directing a feel-good family movie… Something that would make the late Raj Kapoor very proud. His parents, especially his father, are helping him every step of the way. He has a lot of encouragement from both his uncles too for reviving the RK banner,” says the friend.

At the moment, Ranbir Kapoor has his kitty filled with big directors and banners casting him as the lead, with almost every leading actress ready to act opposite him. However, Kapoor is quite keen to go back to his original plan of directing.

“It’s not a case of choosing one over the other. I would like to revive the RK banner. And it won’t be easy. But I plan to work as hard on doing that as I do on my acting,” says Kapoor earnestly.

And it is keeping his directing plans in mind that Ranbir hasn’t signed on a spate of films. Almost through with Ananjani Anjaani with Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir only has Anurag Basu’s Khamoshi on hand.

Deepika gives Imran a 'lift'

Yes, that's Deepika Padukone carrying Imran Khan on her back! Why on earth, you wonder? Just for laughs! The two have been shooting together for 'Break Ke Baad' and they've been having a lot of fun together. During the shoot in Delhi, Deepika is believed to have become quite close to Imran's girlfriend Avantika as well. But let's talk about this picture, which, by the way, was posted by Deepika herself on her Twitter account.

For a scene in the movie, Imran was required to carry Deepika. Deepika joked that she didn't think Imran could do it. To which Imran joked back, "I'll show her..." Then, turning the idea of a hero carrying a heroine around, Deepika carried Imran on her back! The two were just goofing around of course. And we have to admit it makes for a very funny picture, and it's always good to see stars with a sense of humour!

Munnabhai Chale Amerika

Just when all Munnabhai fans had given up any hope of seeing the much promised third installment in the series, news comes in that Munnabhai Chale Amreeka is very much in the pipeline. The filming will begin at the end of the year.

Munnabhai Chale Amreeka is very much on the cards. Raju has been working on the script, and we should begin filming soon” confirms Munnabhai, Sanjay Dutt, himself.

Arshad Warsi, who is currently enjoying the success of his first production Hum Tum Aur Ghost, is equally optimistic of doing the film. “Raju has been working on the story and screenplay for some time now. We all know how Raju works, and he needs the story to be just right. We didn’t want to make the sequel just to cash in on the Munnabhai success. We want to make a good and equally enjoyable film,” explains Arshad.

But what has delayed the film for so many years?
“The film, as the name suggests, is set in the US. Now, many films have been made with the whole New York and 9/11 incident in the background. A lot of them were being filmed or released during the time Raju was writing the script. Plus 3 Idiots also happened for Raju. So, for a good year and a half, he was completely immersed in that project. He has now gone back to the writing board and is re-working the script… putting final touches to it,” says Warsi.

According to both Dutt and Warsi, the film should go on floors either in December of this year or at the very start of next year.

Akshay deserves a national award

His mom-in-law Dimple Kapadia thinks he should get it for being an all-rounder!

Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia is certain that her son-in-law, actor Akshay Kumar, who has already been conferred a Padma Shri award, deserves a national award too because she believes that he is a great entertainer.

"I think he (Akshay Kumar) deserves a national award. Nor for any movie as such but he has really grown as an actor and he is excellent in comedy beside that he is an allrounder, and most importantly he is a great entertainer," she told reporters at a cafe where she was promoting her upcoming film ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’.

Dimple maintains that getting awards is a matter of luck.

"Honestly speaking, awards are just luck. Some give brilliant performances but they never get awarded and someone else gets it. I don't think an award is really important. Someone can perform far more brilliantly than you but you get the award, so it's not a big deal," she said.

Dimple is sharing screen space with Akshay in director Nikhil Advani's ‘Patiala House’ where he is again playing the role of a Sardar after Anees Bazmee's ‘Singh is Kinng’ (2008).

Sixteen long years after ‘Krantiveer’ in 1994, Dimple is paired opposite actor Nana Patekar in Kabir Sadanand's ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ where they play lovers in their 50s.

"It was a fantastic experience again working with Nana Patekar. We share a student-teacher relationship where I am a student. I learnt a lot from him. With every film he has given me something," said Dimple.

"The climax of the film is completely dedicated to him and Kabir. The way they made me see it and the way they made me do it... it's completely their baby. I just went and did what they wanted me to do. It's great to get such a co-star and that's what Nana is. He gives you a lot," she added

Releasing Friday, ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ weaves together lives of three couples who connect with one another through a series of touching and funny moments. Dimple essays a Parsi woman running an old Irani cafe in the film.

Sania Mirza to marry Shoaib Malik

It’s a match across borders and sports, as one of India’s top tennis players Sania Mirza will be getting married to Shoaib Mailk, the former cricket captain of Pakistan. The news has been confirmed by Sania’s father, Imran Mirza. He has also said that after the marriage, the couple will be based in Dubai.

Hrithik's debuting as singer

Hrithik Roshan Reliance Big Pictures and Rakesh Roshan's highly-anticipated film KITES unfolds yet another surprise! KITES marks the debut of actor Hrithik Roshan as a singer on the silver screen. To commemorate this, Reliance Big Pictures is launching the music of the film on national television as a roadblock by airing Hrithik's debut song 'Kites in the sky', in English, along with some behind-the-scenes footage on 29th March at 9.30 p.m. across 40 television channels.

In a statement issued to the media, Hrithik says, "I was nervous to make my debut as a singer, considering I come from a family that is well known in the world of music, but for this very reason my chacha [Rajesh Roshan] and director Anurag Basu were most certain that I could sing. I have given this song my best and honest shot, but I still don't consider myself a professional singer."

Arshad Warsi says "Story and screenplay of Hum Tum Aur Ghost are mine"

Arshad Warsi Arshad Warsi admits he had differences with the director Kabeer Kaushik of his first production Hum Tum Aur Ghost. "Yes we did have differences. There were some scenes which I thought should've been shot differently. The post-production was done by the entire crew. But of course Kabeer Kaushik would get credit as director. But the story and screenplay were mine. So it was my vision to begin with."

Arshad Warsi admits he has hiked his price after the success of Ishqiya. But he isn't sure if he'd be paid what he's asking.

Says the actor, "I'd have asked for what I deserve even if Ishqiya hadn't worked. I'm finally asking for the price I deserve. I was completely underpaid earlier. I'll ask for a certain price now (Rs. 3 crores). If I don't get it I'll continue to be an underpaid actor for films I believe in. For example if I am asked to do a sequel to Ishqiya, I wouldn't ask for money. I haven't ever asked for money for the Munnabhai movies. If I feel the film helps me in any way as an actor I'll cut my price."

But Golmaal, Arshad feels is a commercial film and therefore should be lucrative for him. "Golmaal doesn't help the actors at all. It only helps the director. Munnabhai does help the actors. Even Dhamaal whose sequel I'm doing doesn't help actors. Golmaal and Dhamaal mean another hit for me. Nothing more."

Between Golmaal 3 and Dhamaal, Arshad is doing Mani Ratnam's assistant Bijoy Nambiar's gritty real-life drama. "After Golmaal 3, I'll do a small-budget film before going into Dhamaal. It's the kind of film that enthuses me as an actor. I play a cop in a real-life setting in Mumbai."

Arshad was almost not in Golmaal 3 because of the price factor, though he gives another reason for his near non-presence in Golmaal 3. "I needed a gap of at least two weeks between the last day of my own production and the first day of the shooting of Golmaal. After running around like a mad man for the promotion of Ishqiya and completing Hum Tum Aur Ghost, I really needed a break. I've had no chance to relax. But now I'm starting Golmaal 3 on the day after the release of Hum Tum Aur Ghost. So no respite. I really begged them for time off."

New releases open to empty houses

Empty cinema halls greeted the three key releases of the week - HUM TUM AUR GHOST, WELL DONE ABBA and MITTAL V/S MITTAL. The opening and noon shows were dismal at several centres. What comes as a surprise is that the films were well promoted prior to their release, especially HUM TUM AUR GHOST. But the poor numbers have come as a shocker. Let's hope the business picks up on Friday evening as well as on Saturday and Sunday.

Amitabh Bachchan Bollywood's legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has been signed on as the brand ambassador of 'Save The Tiger' campaign.

It is a cause of nature, it is a cause of environment and if my face and my voice can be used to impress upon people that this is something essential and important. It is not just for the environment but for the entire nation then I shall be most willing to join it."

"If I can be a voice that is going to be speaking about these issues, if I can be a face that perhaps a few people will listen to and hear and if I can convince even one individual to follow this path, this very righteous path. I think that somewhere I will feel convinced that I have done something worthwhile. And I feel that this campaign will also take one very small step forward but at least a step forward," he added.

With the legendary superstar Amitabh Bachchan joining in as the brand ambassador, the tigers are sure to receive a much needed reprieve.

Riteish & Jacqueline on Radio City

Fun and entertainment got a new dimension when Mumbaicha mulga, Riteish Deshmukh and Sri Lankan beauty, Jacqueline Fernanades, visited the studios of Radio City 91.1FM to talk exclusively about their much awaited release ‘Jane Kaha Se Aayee Hain’. Both the stars had a great time interacting with the witty, RJ Rohit in Radio City’s de stressing evening drive time show, Joyride from 5 to 7 p.m. RJ Rohit, in his signature style of humour, managed to get a lot out of the two stars on how great they felt working together in ‘Jane Kaha Se Aayee Hain’ post ‘Aladdin’. Jacqueline Fernandes plays the role of an alien in the movie and she enjoyed showcasing her strengths in real life lifting Riteish Deshmukh in the Radio City studios.

Riteish and Jacqueline had a fabulous time conversing with RJ Rohit in Venus language which is a robotic language used in the movie. Also, during the course of their conversation with RJ Rohit they came up with the interesting idea of relating Bollywood stars to the planets in the solar system.

Katrina Kaif was termed as ‘chand ka ek tukda’, Amitabh Bachan was compared to the ‘sun’ as he’s the source of light to the Bollywood industry, Salman khan was compared to ‘jupiter’ as that’s the biggest planet in the industry, when he stands up people around him are not visible.

Why Hrithik Roshan’s film is called Kites

kites-
Finally, we know why Kites is called Kites. Producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu, makers of Kites, one of the most eagerly awaited romantic films of this summer disclose the inspiration behind their film’s title.

“The idea for Kites came to me when I was gazing at the sky and saw two kites flying,”. It looked very romantic. It was very intriguing – the way they came close, played, almost embraced each other and then drew apart. Unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose. I sat down and penned a story around this idea.” notes Rakesh Roshan.

“Kites is a metaphor in the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher they fly,” adds Anurag Basu who penned the screenplay and directed the film.

Produced by Rakesh Roshan and to be released worldwide by Reliance BIG Pictures, Kites is directed by Anurag Basu. It stars Hrithik Roshan and the Mexican star Barbara Mori along with Kangana Ranaut, Kabir Bedi and Nick Brown.

SRK and Bachchans get pally

And on Sunday night, when Ambani decided to unveil his plans, everyone present was left completely in awe.

More interestingly, it marked a sort of getting together of two of the industry's most powerful men, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

King Khan was seen warmly greeting Amitabh Bachchan, after which the two had a long conversation. But it didn’t stop there. While Amitabh made an early exit, SRK left for a meeting soon after midnight, after making sure he invited Abhishek and Aishwarya to Mannat before leaving.

“Shah Rukh had a meeting at his home after the party. So, he left soon after midnight like Amitabh. But Abhishek and Aishwarya were still at the party along with Karan Johar. Arjun Rampal and Farhan Akhtar, who were also present at the party, were having an equally good time. But once the party began to wind up, Abhishek and Ash headed to Mannat with Karan Johar,” says our source, adding, “Even when Mr. Bachchan was leaving, SRK came out with Abhishek and Aishwarya to see him out. They stood at the door and had a long conversation even as Abhi-Ash went back in. He even stood and spoke to Amar Singh, who had accompanied the Bachchan family.”

Ever since Karan Johar managed to sort things out between Shah Rukh and Aishwarya at his birthday party last year, things between Bachchan Jr. and SRK have been steadily improving.

“Karan is the main reason of this growing friendship between the Bachchans and Shah Rukh. Ever since SRK apologized to Ash, the father and son have become increasingly fond of him. They respect him a lot more, and this is showing in their growing interaction,” says the source, “Now there is no party at Mannat where Abhi-Ash are not invited.”

In fact, when the Bachchans decided to boycott the Filmfare Awards on Saturday night, SRK was amongst the very few stars who openly supported their decision – this despite the fact that he was hosting the awards and is almost synonymous with them. He even tweeted Abhishek the same night saying ‘had nice time at filmfare..but my friend without u and the wonderful family it just couldnt become great for me. love u. missed u...tell dad, mom and aish. love u very much.’

The Ambani party was said to be a celebration of the great performance of Big Pictures’ three movies – Rock On, Paa and 3 Idiots. Italso turned out to be the venue where Ambani let his B-Town mates know what he has planned for the coming year.

Film Previews: Road, Movie and Rokkk

Abhay Deol, arguably the most talented of the Deol clan struck gold with his recent release 'Dev D', which turned out to be a box office success and redefined Hindi film viewing in the country.
The story of 'Dev D' was conceived by Abhay, and apart from garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews, the film generated a cult following and also won key Filmfare awards. Over the past few years Abhay has acted in offbeat, acclaimed gems like 'Manorama Six Feet Under', 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local', 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!'. Now Abhay is back with another unconventional film titled 'Road, Movie', directed by Dev Benegal. In the film Abhay plays a man who seeks salvation by screening films across a desert. 'Road, Movie' also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, Satish Kaushik and newbie Mohammed Faizal Usmani.

"Road, Movie is a celebration of cinema. It's actually a film that you are watching within a film. It plays upon how important it (cinema) is to us and how it is treated and accepted. It is a journey of cinema," Abhay was quoted as saying, "It's very enjoyable, much more light and not serious and preachy. We don't make any great statements with this film. It's just totally made to enjoy the ride," he said. To research for the film, director Benegal (no relation to Shyam Benegal) travelled for a year with a transient cinema troupe that showcased different films in rural Rajasthan villages. The desert footage was ultimately taken from the Kutch District of Gujarat and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. 'Road, Movie' was screened at the 2009 Tokyo International Film Festival and also at Robert DeNiro's Tribeca Film Festival last year. The film releases this Friday, the 5th of March.
